Malaysian Rugby Union gunning for additional funding

The Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) will be having a meeting with the National Sports Council (NSC) to discuss on an effective initiative to gather additional funds to ensure a smooth sailing in planning next season’s events.

President of MRU, Datuk Amiruddin Embi claimed that the RM 1 million allocated by the Youth and Sports Ministry during the Agong’s Cup Rugby Championship last October was insufficient to cover all costs, especially in terms of preparing squad 15 to continue playing for the First Division in the 2016 Asian Rugby Championship.

“To play in the First Division, especially facing teams like Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and Philippines, is not easy. Therefore we need to find additional funds,” said Datuk Amiruddin as quoted from Utusan.

“I will hold a meeting with the Chief Director of NSC, Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail to discuss about this issue.”

“Our main objective is to make sure the team remains in the First Division and also develop the rugby squad.
