PKBM hopeful of Rio berths for Fatehah and Jupha

National cyclists Fatehah Mustapa and Jupha Somnet only have three more races to secure enough points and join compariot Azizulhasni Awang at the Rio Olympics next year.

According to the Vice President of the National Cycling Association of Malaysia (PKBM) Datuk Naim Mohamad, the three races are said to be the Hong Kong World Cup Classic in January 16 and 17, the Asian Cycling Confederation Championship (ACC) in Japan next January 26 to 30 and also the UCI Track Cycling World Championship held in London from March 2 to 6.

“They still have a chance to accumulate more points to qualify and we pray that all three cyclists get to qualify in the 2016 Olympics,” said Naim Mohamad as quoted from Berita Harian.

Azizulhasni is also pushing to qualify for other events as he has only secured a Rio slot for the Keirin event.

Meanwhile, PKBM has requested for Velodrom Cheras to be demolished next June, in order to accommodate the training sessions of the cycling team, ahead of the Olympics.
