Nicol David determined to retain ‘Squash Queen’ status

World No. 1 squash player Nicol David may have conquered the squash scene for a myriad of years now, but the Penang-born athlete is certainly not keen on slowing down any time soon.

After claiming her 8th World Championship title just few weeks back, Nicol is already plotting for more success this year. While she intends to focus on the four major tournaments; Tournament of Champions, British Open, US Open as well as the World Championship, the 31 year-old also intends to strategize and do well in other competitions.

“I can’t believe I’ve been the World No. 1 for nine years now. It’s been fun and exciting,” Nicol told Sinar Harian.

“There were certainly tough moments, but I grew as an adult during the course of my career and hopefully I can continue scaling more success this year.

“Major competitions like the TOC, British Open, US Open and the World Championships will obviously be my major target, but I also plan on joining plenty of other tournaments and more importantly, doing well in them.

Besides clinching her eighth World Championship title, Nicol David’s imperious form throughout 2014 also led to her Gold medals in the Commonwealth Games as well as the Asian Games. She was also part of the Malaysian team that finished runners up at the Women’s World Team Championship.
