Piece of World Cup trophy found in FIFA’s basement

An original piece of the World Cup trophy that was stolen in Brazil back in 1983 has been discovered in FIFA’s storage basement.

The Jules Rimet trophy was awarded to the winners of the World Cup from the year 1930 till 1950. Brazil was then awarded the trophy permanently after they secured the World Cup for a third time in 1970.

Unfortunately though, the trophy was stolen shortly after it was given to Brazil and there was no trace of it until the base of it was recently discovered in FIFA’s storage basement.

“We think no Fifa president has seen it since Jules Rimet himself,” David Ausseil, creative director of FIFA’s museum told the Associated Press.

“We thought the base was lost in Brazil,”

Another trophy that was handed to Brazil permanently was also stolen three months before the 1966 World Cup that was held in England.

That being said, the trophy was found a week later; with a dog discovering it in a South London hedge.
