Let Harimau Muda players choose their teams – Khairy J

Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin believes that Harimau Muda players should be given the liberty of being able to pick their own teams as soon as they depart the set-up.

Current FAM rules requires these players to head back to their home states and report for duty, before proceeding with negotiations regarding a move. This particular law has come under scrutiny in recent times with the fiasco involving Gary Steven Robbat, Johor DT and Pahang FA.

The 22 year-old did not report for duty with Kedah, which is his home state. Instead, he proceeded to sign a deal with Pahang, before going against his contract by agreeing to a new deal with Johor DT.

The case was investigated thoroughly by FAM, before Gary was eventually handed a three-months suspension. But Khairy though, claims that players should be given the option of choosing their own teams.

“(The) Former coach of Harimau Muda A, Datuk Ong Kim Swee, also shares the same opinion and agrees with me, that the players should not be prevented from playing (for) their team of choice,” he claimed.
