All England Championship: V Shem-Wee Kiong through to second round

National men’s doubles shuttlers Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong are through to the second round of the All England Championships after easing past Denmark’s Fabian Holzer and Mark Lamfuss

The Malaysian duo, who are bidding to become the first Malaysian team to clinch the doubles title in seven years, took only 28 minutes to clinch a 21-13, 21-14 straight sets win.

The victory allowed them to set up a second round clash with another Danish pair, Mads Conrad Petersen and Mads Pieler Kolding. They downed South Korea’s Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong with a 21-16, 21-19 victory in the first round.

Meanwhile, national women’s doubles shuttlers Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soong Fie Cho did not progress beyond the first round in their All England debut as they suffered a 12-21, 22-20, 14-21 defeat against India’s Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa in a match that lasted 51 minutes.
