West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle has been handed a major fine after he asked a reporter out on a date during a live interview yesterday.
Australian reporter Melanie McLaughlin was speaking to the cricket star about his batting style, when he replied by asking her out on a date – something that annoyed Mel.
But she continued the interview by dismissing it, though his club Melbourne Renegades has effectively handed him a A$10,000 fine.
“Mel is an outstanding sports presenter,” said Melbourne Renegades’ head, Stuart Coventry. “We think of her very highly and the club and players will ensure we work with her in a professional and respectful manner in future.”
