Is Mauro Olivi good enough for Selangor FA?

Selangor have officially completed the signing of Argentinian forward Mauro Olivi from Colo Colo, ahead of the upcoming Malaysia Super League season.

The Red Giants have been monitoring him for a while now, and they brough him over to Malaysia for a quick trial stint recently. But Mauro seems to have convinced Zainal Abidin that he’s the right man to partner Patrick Wleh – prompting the Red Giants to finalize the deal with him.

But there are continuous question marks over whether he’s the right man for Selangor, considering that he’s never featured in this part of the world before. He’s also 32 years-old; and many fear that he’s probably past his best. His agent Sergio Espindola though, disagrees.

“He’s not too old. You can see him running around with plenty of energy and he’s always looking to give his best for the team,” Sergio told Sinar Harian.

“Olivi is excited to be here and he’s just adjusting to the time difference here, right now. I’ve advised him to rest well to ensure that he’s always refreshed and fit.

“He gives 100% on the field during training sessions and he blends in with his teammates as well. I’m confident that Olivi is capable of becoming the top scorer in the Super League this year,” he added.

The Red Giants will be looking to mount a strong title challenge this year, having revamped their squad since winning the Malaysia Cup at the end of last year.

Zainal Abidin has brought four players from Pahang, including speedy winger R. Gopinathan. They’ve also secured the signature of Patrick Wleh, who is widely known across the country for his predatory abilities.
