Malaysian Masters: Zulfadli bags spectacular second round win

Professional player Zulfadli Zulkiffli successfully pulled off an upset when he defeated Hong Kong top seed Hu Yun yesterday to set foot in the third round of the Malaysian Masters Grand Prix Gold in Penang.

The youth champion stunned the crowd with his skills and also proved himself a tough opponent during their three-set match in the Spice Arena last night. He was ousted in the first set 17-21 but bounced back to secure a rubber set with a victory of 21-18. He then ultimately claimed the third set with a close win 24-22 to qualify for the next round.

The 22 year-old will be playing against either India’s Ajay Jayaram of Petr Koukal of Czech Republic to advance to the quarter finals.

The Malaysian Masters will serve as a leaping board for Zulfadli to prepare himself for the upcoming Badminton Asia Team Championsio (BATC) in Hyderabad, India next month, which also serves as a qualifier for the Kunshan Thomas Cup in May.
