Indian Open: Wei Feng edges into third round

National men’s singles shuttler Chong Wei Feng has successfully set foot into the third round of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships- better known as Indian Open- held in Lucknow, India yesterday.

The 28 year-old managed to stun the crowd with his amazing stamina in the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium as he pulled off quite an intense match playing Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk.

Wei Feng was closely defeated 18-21 in the first set before bouncing back hard to sweep the second set with an astonishing 26-24. He showed no signs of fatigue in the third set when he exhibited dominance to win 21-19, granting him an entry to the next round. The match lasted 67 minutes.

The Kedahan is scheduled to meet China’s Shi Yuqi in the third round later today.

Wei Feng is joined by compatriot Goh Giap Chin in the next round as the Malaysian back-up player managed to claim victory over host player Aditya Joshi after three sets 17-21, 21-16 and 21-17.

Giap Chin is slated to meet national youth champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli in the following round.
