Terengganu make U-turn on Dembele decision

Terengganu FA (TFA) made a surprising decision at the last minute to not offer a contract to Malian striker Makan Dembele.

According to Secretary-General of TFA Arpin Draman, the decision was made based on his performance level, as his selection as the fourth foreign player caused some dissatisfaction amongst the club’s fans.

The Turtle’s supporters claimed that it would have been a mistake to sign Dembele, whom they likened to former striker, Javier Estupinan.

In fact, the fans exhibited their displeasure as they raised their banners as a sign of protest during the side’s dismal performance against Kuantan FA on Saturday.

“We admit that Dembele was the best foreign player that came for selections. However, if we do not sign a contract, anything can happen,” Arpin said as reported by Harian Metro.

“So, before the transfer window closes, we will work hard to find a suitable candidate to fill in the last slot for a foreigner.”

At the same time, head coach Ahmad Yusof said that his squad is still looking for a local player and a foreign player to satisfy the 25-man quota for the upcoming season.
