“I’m not worried” – Zainal remains unperturbed by pre-season struggles

Zainal Abidin Hassan believes the three consecutive defeats his side has suffered during pre-season, including the 4-2 loss at the hands of Thailand Premier League side Samut Songkhram does not fully reflect Selangor’s real strength.

According to the former national player, there is still time to prepare his team before the season begins with a Charity Shield clash against Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) in Larkin.

“It’s not that I am not worried about the results, but I am more focused on emphasizing a style of play that will seek out of the best of my players,” he told Arena Metro last night.

“I will have a bigger picture of who will be my main players in the upcoming season. There are still a few aspects that need to be strengthened but we will be ready.”

The defeat in Bangkok saw Zainal’s side to return home without a win, after losing out 2-0 to Nakhom Pathom United on Sunday. Before that, they also lost 1-0 to Super League newcomers Pulau Pinang at the Bandaraya Stadium.

The Selangor coach made many changes when he faced both of the Thai clubs.

“I tested out about 22 players during these two matches to see if they can adapt to the tactics. In our first match (Nakhom), we wasted a lot of opportunities. In our second match (yesterday), we conceded 4 goals easily so we need to work on these few things,” he concluded.
