JDT boss applauds players for Charity Shield triumph

Although the Southern Tigers were unable to claim the full 3 points during the curtain opener match in the Super League, JDT head coach Mario Gomez was satisfied with the fact that they clinched the Charity Shield title.

“It was a great start for Johor DT because we managed to win the Charity Shield and I am very happy with the passion shown by every player in the match.

“We only lost 3 points and the 1 point that we claimed will increase the players’ morale to give us a winning performance in the next match. I am optimistic that the players will improved.

“We dominated possession, especially in the first half. Plus, there were at least 5 to 6 goalscoring chances but there was no finishing touch. Nevertheless, the chemistry between Juan Martin Lucero and Jorge Pereyra Diaz needs to be strengthened.

While debriefing the tactics used by the Johor DT squad, Gomez admitted that his squad slowed down the tempo of the game during the second half and that it was not practical.

“When we slowed the game down, the opponent scored a goal through a free kick,” said Gomez referring to Hafiz Kamal’s strike on goal.

“For the match against Terengganu FC II, I might rest a few players because we have a FA Cup match on the 19th of February, followed by an AFC Cup match on the 25th of February,” Gomez added.
