2016 LTdL: Andrea Guardini clinches dramatic Stage 8 finish

Astana Pro Team (AST) rider Andrea Guardini won his fourth stage of the 2016 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) after beating Jakub Mareczko of Southeast (STH) again at the eighth and final stage today. Aisan Racing Team (AIS) cyclist Shinki Kuroeda completed his first podium finish after coming in third place. The Italian cyclist won Stage 1, 5, 7 and now 8 to make it 22 stage wins at the LTdL.

The AST superstar completed the 119.0km race in 2 hours and 42 minutes. This stage started in Batu Pahat, Johor and ended in Jalan Merdeka in Malacca.

Dimension Data (DDD) rider Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg retained his Yellow jersey for General Classifications after finishing as overall winner of the 2016 LTdL. He finished ahead of Daniel Alexander Diez of UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Miguel Lopez Moreno of AST with a time of 28 hours, 31 minutes and 21 seconds.

Andrea Guardini, who won half of the total stages at 2016 LTdL, retained his Teal jersey for Points Classification after finishing as overall winner for the sprints competition with 88 points, ahead of Jakub Mareczko with 58 points and Andrea Palini with 55 points.

Wang Meiyin of Hengxiang Cycling Team (HEN) retained his Red jersey for Mountains Competition after finishing as ‘King of the Mountain of the 2016 LTdL with 49 points, beating Miguel Lopez Moreno with 31 points and Loh Sea Kong with 28 points.

Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Mohd Adiq Husainie Othman finished as the Best Asian Rider in the overall category.

The 2016 LTdL ends after eight stages of 1179.0km of racing.
