Fahrizal’s resignation indicates tougher times for Pahang?

Pahang FC CEO Fahrizal Hasan has officially resigned from his position at the club after receiving pressure from The Elephants’ supporters following the team’s poor performance in the early stages of the Malaysia Super League (MSL) this season.

Fahrizal said on Facebook, his decision was accepted by the Pahang Football Association.

“Prior to the 2016 season, the management understood the risks that were to be taken, and I was fully prepared to take on the responsibilities that were given to me.

“After the discussions, the management decided to accept my resignation as CEO from Pahang FC. I apologize for all the mistakes I made,” he said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.

Pahang now sits at the bottom of the MSL table and was eliminated in the third round of the Superbest Power FA Cup at the hands of Sime Darby at the Darul Makmur Stadium.

The 35 year-old also expressed his appreciation to all parties that worked hard in helping him carry out his duties since his tenure with Pahang Football Association (PBNP) began in 2012.

“I was lucky to be surrounded by individuals that showed high levels of commitment and produced a fine working culture since the establishment of Pahang FC.

I confidently believe that the young squad today will mature and become great players one day,” Fahrizal Hasan added.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

While on one hand it’s honourable for him to resign and pass the mantle on to somebody else, it certainly comes at a time where Pahang need a morale boost more than anything. Within that context, his resignation could ultimately be fatal. The Elephants have struggled for form on the pitch, as their foreign signings continue to look a mere shade of the foreign bunch they had last year. Pahang have consistently maintained that their new project revolves around youth, but with younger players, it always takes that extra bit of time. Question is though, are they willing to risk relegation while waiting for their project to bear fruit? Or will they jump the gun and make a flurry of signings when the transfer window opens in June?
