“Satu Sekolah Satu Silat” program to hit Malaysian schools

The ‘Satu Sekolah Satu Silat’ program is expected to be implemented by the Education Ministry in an effort to attract more students to be interested in the local martial art.

The President of the National Silat Foundation (Pesaka), Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam said he is confident that the implementation will ensure and facilitate the preservation of the art for years to come.

“Today, we can witness that Silat has caught the attention of the non-bumiputeras as how we (bumiputeras) enjoy taekwondo and karate,” Ali Rustam told Bernama.

Ali also said that in line with the government’s recognition of Silat as the official martial art of Malaysia, more universities are beginning to introduce Silat into their co-curriculum activities.

“I hope to see other universities following the footsteps of USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) because the rise of Silat is very significant. This art needs to be highlighted to the whole world.

He also went on to add that a national exhibition on Silat will be held on the 14th of May, with over 200,000 Silat experts to be a part of it.

“Various activities will be held including performances exhibiting the various kinds of Silat, including the showcase of its uniforms and equipment,” he added.
