Chong Wei eases into second round of Indian Open

Lee Chong Wei’s ‘Mission India’ got off to a positive start yesterday as he eased into the second round of the competition.

Chong Wei secured his spot in the next round after comfortably thrashing Japanese Kazumasa Sakai 21-11, 21-17 at the New Delhi Siri Fort Sports Complex.

Prior to that, men’s doubles duo Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong managed to pull off an upset when they defeated Chinese power pair Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen 21-19, 21-18.

The two will next face China’s Wang Yilyu and Zhang Wen to bid for a quarter final slot.

However, luck was certainly not on Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong’s side as the pair was ousted in the first round after succumbing to their old rivals, Kim Gi Jung and Kim Sarang of South Korea, 12-21 and 21-23.
