Perak’s victory over KL marred by post-match crowd unrest

Perak have booked their spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Kuala Lumpur, sealing a 2-0 victory on aggregate.

A fantastic first half strike from Nurridzuan Abu Hassan was more than enough to help Shamsul Saad’s side clinch the win as they continued their excellent defensive run this year by collecting yet another clean sheet.

However, the victory was marred by crowd unrest at the MP Selayang Stadium, which escalated right at the end of the game. The game in itself was highly tensed, with tackles flying in all over the pitch. But on the stands, things looked fine until the last few minutes of the game, when a firecracker exploded right outside the stadium, behind the away fans’ terrace.

The explosion caused panic amongst the away fans, as they began moving closer towards the edge of the fence. Minutes later, the final whistle was blown but there appeared to be continuous panic on the away section, as fans slowly made their way out.

Federal Reserve Unit members were immediately deployed to ease the tension, as things started to get heated up outside the stadium. One Perak fan we spoke to claimed that the home fans provoked them by throwing stones at them, as soon as they exited the ground.

The entire incident culminated in a massive traffic jam outside the MP Selayang Stadium, as FRU Units started occupying the roads, in a bid to separate both sets of fans. As of 12.00 AM, the Perak team bus is still parked firmly opposite the Selayang Stadium entrace.

More to come…
