Malaysian Tigers to take on Fiji in June friendly

The Malaysian national team will reportedly be going on an ‘Ocenia Tour’ this June, where they will are expected to play three international friendlies against teams from the Pacific Islands as well as Asia.

The Malaysian Tigers have an Asian Cup play-off tie scheduled to take place on the 2nd of June, though it now appears that they will be playing three more matches within the same month.

According to Stadium Astro, the national squad will be going up against Papua New Guinea on the 17th of June, before facing New Caledonia on the 22nd of June. Four days later, Ong Kim Swee’s men will end their tour with a friendly against Fiji.

All three teams are ranked below Malaysia (166) on the official FIFA rankings. Papua New Guinea are ranked 202, while New Caledonia and Fiji are both ranked 181 and 186, respectively.

These matches will take place during the Malaysia Super League break for the month of Ramadhan.
