World Championship: Nicol David to face Alison Waters today

National squash player Nicol David was forced to sweat it out before securing a spot in the second round of the NAZA PSA Women’s World Championship in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

The eight-time winner came back from a set down to defeat New Zealand’s Rachael Grinham 3-2 in the deciding set in a match that lasted 47 minutes at the National Squash Centre.

“Rachael is not an easy opponent to face and getting drawn with her as early as the first round was not really ideal for me,” Datuk Nicol David said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.

“Her shots were way better than mine and she managed to isolate my movements.

“I’m glad that I found my rhythm in the third set, which eventually helped me win the game.

Nicol David will face England’s Alison Waters later today.
