“Facing Nicol in her home country won’t be easy” – El Sherbini

Datuk Nicol Ann David will face Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini in the quarter-finals of the NAZA PSA Women’s World Squash Championships today after dismantling Alison Waters yesterday.

The eight-time World Champion set up a delicious last eight encounter against the second best player in the world after defeating the English player 11-9, 11-3, 11-5 in 39 minutes.

“I think every player wants to start well (in the first set) and pick up the victory first, which gives you the extra boost of confidence,” Nicol David said as quoted by The Malay Mail.

“Playing against Alison, you must not give her any confidence to play her game. I really dug deep and just played the right shots at the right time. I’m very pleased (with this victory).

Nicol David has failed to win in her last three matches against Nour El Sherbini (Tournament of Champions in January, the Windy City Open in February, and the British Open in March).

However, Nour El Sherbini is anticipating a different version of Nicol David later today.

“Nicol is playing in her hometown and in her own fortress, but I will try to do my best. I know it will be a tough match. This is a prestigious tournament and certainly everyone will give their best. I think that I’m in good form but I’m sure that she (Nicol David) is also in good form and prepared for the match. It’s not going to be easy,” El Sherbini said yesterday.
