“Zulfadli is better than Goh Soon Huat!” – Rashid Sidek slams BAM

Former badminton singles coach Rashid Sidek has lashed out at Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), claiming that their decision to exclude Zulfadli Zulkifli from the Thomas Cup squad is baffling

The 47 year-old believes that Zulfadli’s current form warrants a spot in the squad and he even went as far as to suggest that Zulfadli is better than Goh Soon Huat, who is the third choice men’s singles player.

“If your target is to make it to the finals, then it can’t be done with the current line-up of players,” Rashid told Utusan Malaysia.

“His accomplishments may not be major accolades. He has not made it to the semi-finals or even quarter-finals of any competition but he has proved himself to be a better player than Soon Huat,” Rashid expressed.

“If BAM wants to accomplish their mission of reaching the finals, the line-up of players should be better than the current line-up,” he explained.

“If I was Zulfadli, I would definitely be disappointed to have missed out on the squad,” he added.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei will be spearheading the men’s singles department, with Iskandar Zulkarnain behind him as the second choice player.
