Velizar Popov sees bright future for ‘talented’ Kelantan squad

Newly-appointed Kelantan boss Velizar Popov claims that he only accepted the job after noticing the depth of talent available within the first team squad.

The Bulgarian head coach was brought in to replace K. Devan last week and while he does concede that it’s always risky to come in the middle of a season, he has no qualms about the potential that exists in this team.

“Kelantan have some of the best players in the country, especially in midfield. Even our foreigners are pretty good,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

“I know it’s a risk to come in the middle of the season. But after watching Kelantan’s match against Johor DT and Terengganu on YouTube, I realised this team has the potential to succeed.

“I’m confident this team can go far and do well in the Malaysia Super League as well as the Malaysia Cup,” he added.

Kelantan are currently preparing for two important clashes against Selangor and Popov claims it will be the perfect opportunity for him to fully gauge the strength and weaknesses of this team.

“We’re training as usual right now and we have two games against Selangor coming up. But after that, we’ll have a long break and I intend to use the break to study my team,” Popov concluded.
