2017 LTdL will return to action in Langkawi

The 22nd edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) will return to action in February next year.

The secretary general of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, announced that the eight-stage race will begin on a Wednesday (February 22) and will end a week later on the same day (March 1) as agreed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

LTdL CEO Emir Abdul Jalal said that the race next year will begin at Langkawi Island.

“The race will benefit more if we start on a Wednesday ,” he said as quoted by Berita Harian.

“We are also in talks with teams from Europe to join us for next season’s edition of the race.”

South African cyclist Reinardt Janse van Rensburg from Team Dimension Data won the 2016 LTdL for general classifications, which indicates the rider with the fastest time when all stage results are added together. Andrea Guardini of Italy, who races for Astana Pro Team, won four stages this year and was the winner of the points classification category, which indicates the rider with the most wins in the sprinting competition in each stage. Hengxiang Cycling Team rider Wang Meiyin of China was awarded the ‘King of the Mountain’ title after coming in first place in the mountains classification for being the best climber throughout the race.
