MSL Week 14: Kelantan, JDT seal gigantic wins, Perak’s woes continue

Kelantan’s MSL campaign was handed a major boost as they romped to an emphatic 6-1 win over arch rivals Terengganu on Friday night. Baze Ilijoski opened the scoring through a spot-kick on the 4th minute mark, before Issey Nakajima equalized on the 7th minute. Wander Luiz made it 2-1 just before half-time, though Kelantan scored four goals in the second half – three from Ilijoski and one from Wan Zack Haikal – to complete the drubbing.

JDT, on the other hand, strengthened their bid for supremacy as they notched a 5-0 victory over Kedah at the Larkin Stadium. Safiq, who only recently announced his retirement from the internatinal scene, headed home from close range on the 27th minute, before doubling the score moments before half-time with his second goal. Marcos Antonio made it 3-0 in the second half, before Jorge Diaz netted two late goals to help the Southern Tigers consolidate their position at the summit of the league table.

Ugo Ukah opened his Selangor account in style, helping Selangor to a late 2-1 win against PDRM at the Shah Alam Stadium. PDRM’s Guilherme de Paula had opened the scoring against his former side, in the first half, before Hazwan Bakri equalized merely seven minutes into the second half. But on the 90th minute mark, the Nigerian defender scored from close range, to send the Selangor fans into frenzy mode!

Pahang also acquired a positive result over the weekend, as new signing Pablo Vranjican netted two goals to help them to a 2-0 win over Sarawak in Kuantan. He initially broke the deadlock on the 37th minute, before adding a second goal on the 74th minute, ensuring that Pahang fans were given satisfactory view of their new acquisition.

Meanwhile, Penang remained at the bottom of the Super League table, despite sealing a morale-boosting 4-3 win over T-Team in Kuala Terengganu. Patrick Dos Santos Cruz scored a hat-rick for the home side, but two goals from Ranti Martins and Jeong Seok-min – both of whom are new signings for the Panthers – allowed Nenad Bacina’s men to clinch victory on the night.

Felda United’s hopes of keeping up with Johor were also handed a timely boost as they notched a 2-1 win over Perak in Jengka. Uzbek midfielder Lutfulla Turaev broke the deadlock on the 24th minute, after a fine assist from Firdaus Faudzi. On the 28th minute, Zah Rahan Krangar made it 2-0 with a fantastic individual attempt. Perak did manage to pull one back late in the game, but Fazrul Hazli’s goal turned out to be a mere consolation.
