Former Premier League footballer dies after being tasered by police

The footballing world was in shock yesterday after receiving the news of former Aston Villa player, Dalian Atkinson’s death in the hands of law enforcers.

According to West Marcia Police, they sent some officers to a residence in Telford at 1.30 a.m. after being tipped by the public about safety concerns around the area.

They fired a Taser to Atkinson as soon as they arrived and he received medical attention before being pronounced dead at approximately 3 a.m.

West Mercia Police declined to comment about the incident as the case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The West Midlands Ambulance Service released a statement saying that an ambulance was requested by West Mercia Police at about 1.45 a.m.

“The ambulance was deployed to the scene and we found a man got shot by a Taser as soon as we arrive.

“As the victim was being transported to the Royal Princess Hospital, his condition worsened and went into cardiac arrest.

“Even though we tried to resuscitate the victim, but he was pronounced dead not long after arriving for treatment,” said the statement.

Atkinson began his career at Ipswich Town, before representing multiple clubs around the world. The Englishman won the 1994 League Cup with Villa, as he contributed to the victory with a goal against Manchester United.
