Joan Laporta – the man behind FC Barcelona’s revolution between 2003 and 2010 – dropped by Johor Bahru to meet Johor DT owner, Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim, earlier today.
Both men had met each other during Tunku Ismail’s Europe tour earlier this year, and according to the Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page, itnow appears that the ex-Barca President has touched down in JB to share his thoughts and help the Southern Tigers plan for the future.
“Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT) received a special visit from former president of Barcelona’s FC, Joan Laporta on the 15th of September 2016 and was welcomed by HRH Brigadier General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Crown Prince of Johor,” a post on Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page read.
“HRH The Crown Prince had initially met Laporta during His Highness’ official visit to Spain along with JDT delegates and he is here now to share his experiences and the directions for this club.”
Laporta spearheaded Barcelona during some of its most successful years in modern football, including their ‘six-title season’ in 2009, with Pep Guardiola guiding Lionel Messi and Co to a historic achievement. He left them in 2010, after witnessing them win the La Liga four times, besides two UEFA Champions League triumph.
The 54 year-old was given a comprehensive tour of JDT’s stadium and facilities, including the Tan Sri Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium, Padang Seri Gelam training ground as well as the Dato’ Suleiman Mohd Noor indoor training centre. We’ve attached some of the images, for your own perusal!
