Chong Wei eases into Japan Open semi-finals

Datuk Lee Chong Wei is through to the semi-finals of the Japan Open after sealing a comfortable straight sets win over China’s Shi Yuqi.

The five-time Japan Open champion clinched a 21-12 win in the first set to assert his dominance, before using the momentum to secure an identical win in the second set, to ease into the last four.

 

He will be facing Germany’s Marc Zwiebler, who is ranked 15th in the world, for a place in the final, tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying also marched into the semi-finals after a hard-fought victory over South Korean pair, Kim Gi Jung-Shin Seung Chan.

The Rio Olympic silver medalists will face Ko Sung Hyun-Kim Ha Na from South Korea atau Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Jongkolphan Kititharakul from Thailand, depending on the outcome of their quarter-final bout.
