This Malaysian girl is currently World No.1 in Karate!

If you don’t know who Syakilla Salni is, it’s about time you did!

Syakilla Salni Jefry Krishnan is the first Malaysian to hold the number 1 ranking in the World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1 Premier League Series.

Her accomplishments allowed her to end the 2016 season with a bang, a total of 2,115 points in her grip. She was this close to winning her second Premier League Series title, but lost to Emilie Thouy in Germany.

Just six months ago, Syakilla defeated world champion Sara Cardin and won gold in Dubai. She also earned a silver in Austria and bronze in Turkey.

Another Malaysian girl, Shree Sharmini Segaran, is also doing the country proud with her karate prowess. At 24, she is currently number 8 in the Premier League Series ranking, and finished her season with 880 points.

Both Syakilla and Shree the Malaysia Karate Federation’s hopeful weapons for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Syakilla will also be competing in the World Karate Championships that is happening in Linz, Austria, between October 25 and October 30.

“Looking at her performances in recent tournaments, she will be one of the favourites at the world meet. We’ve never had a world champion, so we hope Syakilla can pull it off this time,” Makaf secretary Vincent Chen said.

As for now, all hail Queen Syakilla!
