Four Laos players suspended for match-fixing

Looks like match-fixing is a quicksand that suck almost any player in.

Four Laos players have been provisionally suspended by the Asian Football Confederation for alleged being involved in match-fixing. The four players are suspended for 60 days for violations against the AFC Disciplinary Code and AFC Code of Ethics.

The alleged match-fixing took place while players were involved in the AFC Solidarity Cup, after the first match of the tournament. The AFC decided to act after deciding that the player’s actions are a threat to the integrity of the competition.

The four players suspended are Saynakhonevieng Phommapanya, Chintana Souksavath, Moukda Souksavath, and Phatthana Syvilay. The investigation is ongoing at the time of writing, and more players might be suspended if found to be linked to the aforementioned offence.

The AFC has zero-tolerance for match-fixings. It is also stated on their website that they take match manipulations very seriously, and it is a core pillar of the AFC Vision and Mission launched in January 2016.
