PV Sindhu is the 3rd non-Chinese in 30 years to win the China Open

For those of you who don’t remember, PV Sindhu bagged the silver medal at the recent Rio Olympics 2016. Sindhu lost to Spain’s Carolina Marin who bounced back after losing the first set to the 21- year old Indian.

The Olympics silver medalist just won her first ever Super Series Premier title, after defeating China’s Sun Yu in the finals of the China Open. Sindhu beat Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11 on Sunday.

This achievement makes Sindhu the third non-Chinese player to win the title in 30 years, according to F Sports.

Needless to say, Sindhu’s win was a huge occasion for India, and her fellow Indian citizens took to social media to overwhelm their star athlete with praises and compliments.

In a country that worships cricket, PV Sindhu had to fight very hard to get to where she is today. We’re glad her efforts are recognised and hopefully she inspires more people to follow in her footsteps!
