Selangor 0-0 N. Sembilan (3-4 on pens): Red Giants sent packing on home soil

Selangor’s misery continues as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Premier League leaders, Negeri Sembilan (NS) 4-3 on penalties after it finished goalless after extra time.

It was cruel for the Red Giants as they have the better chances throughout the game, but luck was not on their side as Ugo Ukah failed to convert the decisive penalty.

It was Negeri Sembilan though who threatened in the early stages, trying to get into Selangor’s box with pace. Lee Tuck though, attempted a powerful shot from outside the box, but it was just tipped wide by Mohd Khairulazhan.

Then on the 23rd minute, Selangor had a golden chance when Victor Astafei’s cross found Francis Forkey Doe and with only the keeper to beat along with loads of time and space, he somehow shoots wide.

Tuck though remains a menace to Selangor when his free-kick from the right was delivered dangerously right in front of goal, but a foul was given against Negeri Sembilan.

On the 38th minute, Selangor had another great chance denied when Syahmi’s cross from the right following a corner was received by Rizal Fahmi. NS keeper, Saiful Amar though, was able to save Rizal’s point-blank shot, in which he then caught the ball.

Two minutes before half-time, S. Veenod then was able to bamboozle two defenders on the left as he delivered a dangerous low cross, to which Saiful diverted it before the ball goes to a Selangor player as the first half ended goalless.

Five minutes after restart, Juliano Mineiro’s free-kick was well saved by Saiful, but it was only the first of many.

Mineiro then pulled off a snapshot to try and catch Saiful off-guard, but the NS keeper again was able to save it.

Then, Forkey Doe missed another glorious chance when he ran into the box and despite pressure from NS defenders, he was able to shoot, but it went just wide.

Nasriq Baharom was able to sneak behind the Selangor defence with a run to try and get Marko Simic’s header from Tuck’s free-kick, but the defender headed over.

Rizal thought he finally got Selangor in the lead from Mineiro’s free-kick, only for the referee to disallow it for a foul.

Saiful Amar afterwards pulled off the save of the game with Forkey Doe unmarked heading from Raimi’s cross point-blank only to be saved by the NS keeper.

With the last chance of normal time, Saiful with another great save by tipping over Raimi’s free-kick as the game went into extra-time.

Selangor continued where they left off by attacking dangerously when Mineiro shoots just wide after Forkey Doe’s lay-off.

Against the run of play, a swift counter-attack found Lee Tuck on the right, but Khairulazhan was equal to the Englishman’s shot.

Tuck again with a dangerous free-kick right at the end of first-half extra-time and again Khairulazhan denied the Englishman.

It was the last notable chance in extra-time as the game went to penalties. Selangor had an early advantage when substitute Noor Hazrul’s penalty was saved. But the advantage was lost when substitute Abdul Halim’s spot-kick was saved on the fourth round of penalties.

With Bruno Suzuki scoring, it was all down to Ukah to keep Selangor in it, but the Nigerian defender hit the post, in which resulted the Premier League side to go through to the FA Cup 3rd Round.
