World Hockey League: Malaysia sails into quarters after 11-1 win over Fiji

It was a goal galore as Malaysia’s national hockey squad fought their way to the semi finals after an impressive 11-1 win over Fiji.

The Group A of (FIH) World Hockey League Round 2 took place at the Maulana Bhasani Stadium, Dhaka.

Malaysia hockey team’s forward Shahril Saabah stole the spotlight after scoring a total of four goals for the national team. Midfielder Fitri Saari nailed a hat trick, followed by a brace by Rashid Baharom.

Apart from them, goal contributions also came from Muhammad Razie Abdul Rahim and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil who scored one goal each.

Malaysia now sits on top of the table of Group B, and they will be facing Sri Lanka in their next fixture on Thursday.

During the opener of the World League Round Two hockey tournament in Dhaka, Malaysia went on to beat Bangladesh 3-0. Subsequently, Malaysia proved to be too good for Oman as the Malaysian Tigers defeated them 6-1.

Malaysia’s Saabah Shahril is also leading the top scorer’s chart with 5 goals.

The semi-finals, to be played as two separate events, will take place England and South Africa in June and July while the WHL Finals are scheduled to be held in India in December.
