#AllEngland: V Shem-Wee Kiong, Peng Soon-Liu Ying through to the quarter-finals

Malaysia’s mens’ doubles team are through to the quarter finals!

At the 2017 All England Round 2 fixture, Malaysia’s top seed Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong aced their sets as they defeated China’s Liu Xiaolong and Xu Chen 2-0. The pair won both sets 21-12, 21-16 and did not take it easy on the Chinese duo.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng – Lai Pei Jing failed to secure a spot in the quarter finals as they lost to Korea’s Yoo Yeon Seong  – Kim Ha Na. The Koreans, who are also newcomers, defeated the Malaysian pair 21-15, 21-9.

However, another mixed doubles team, Chan Peng Soon – Goh Liu Ying successfully made it through to quarter finals. They were defeated in the first round by China’s Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui 9-21. But the pair bounced back and fought relentlessly in the subsequent two rounds as they sent the Chinese duo packing with 23-21 and 21-17.

Malaysian women’s duo Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei also had to bid goodbye to All England. The pair were on to a promising start as they dominated the first round 17-21. However, they failed to keep that momentum going as Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun and Shin Seung Chan retaliated and defeated them in the next two rounds.
