2017 Swiss Open Results: Malaysians reign supreme in qualifying rounds

The qualifying rounds of the 2017 Swiss Open badminton tournament took place yesterday, and here are the results for all the fixtures involving our Malaysian shuttlers:

Mixed doubles 

Malaysia’s Sannatasah Saniru and Bulgaria’s Alex Vlaar lost the first set 24-22 to Germany’s Jones Ralfy Jansen and Franziska Volkmann, but they bounced back in the second set to win 21-16.

Womens singles 

Yap Rui Chen showed her opponent no mercy as she defeated Sonja Perkola 21-17, 21-6.

In the second round, she continued to reign as she sent Ayla Huser down by winning 21-10, 21-15.

Mens’ doubles 

Hendra Setiawan and Tan Boon Heong outclassed Titon Gustaman – Stilian Makarski 21-11, 21-16 as they won both sets. They also beat Bjarne Geiss – Johannes Pistorius 21-18, 21-14 in the second round.

Another mens’ doubles fixture saw Mohd Razif Abdul Latif – Muhammad Hafiz Hashim take on Vanmael Florent – Florent Riancho, and they Malaysian duo easily triumphed 21-13, 21-12.

In the second round, they continued their winning streak by beating Henri Aarnio – Likka Heino 21-18, 21-16.

Mens’ singles

Giap Chin Goh took on Lars Schanzler and got the best of him as the Malaysian won 24-22, 28-26.

The Swiss Open is currently happening at St. Jakobshalle from March 14 to March 19, where participants from all over the world are competing for the grand prize of USD 120,000.
