Lin Dan beats Chong Wei to clinch 2017 Malaysian Open crown

Lin Dan produced a sensational performance to completely outclass Malaysian badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei, en route to clinching the Malaysian Open title today.

Kuching was brought to a standstill yesterday when it was confirmed that Chong Wei would be competing against his perennial rival for the crown but local fans were instead treated to  a strong showing from the Chinese legend, who won two sets comfortably at the Perpaduan Stadium.

The 33 year-old won the first set 21-19 – and just as the crowd was hoping to see Chong Wei mount a comeback in second set, Lin Dan capitalized on his positive momentum to seal a 21-14 win to effectively prevent Chong Wei from winning his 12th Malaysian Open title.

As a result, Lin Dan will take him approximately RM200,000 in cash prize, while Chong Wei will pocket around RM101,000. Next up for the Chinese legend is the Singapore Open, which is slated to start next week.
