“I did not make sponsorship decisions” – Annuar Musa speaks up on MARA & UniKL scandal

Earlier today, former Kelantan FA President Tan Sri Annuar Musa was called in by the Majlis Amanah Rakyat’s (MARA) Internal Audit Committee for an inquiry.

The inquiry is believed to be linked to the misappropriation of MARA funds, which Tan Sri Annuar Musa allegedly used to sponsor the Kelantan football association while he was still president.

It all started when….

On the 12th of January, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim called out a certain “Tan Sri” on a Facebook post on the Johor Southern Tigers’ official page.

The Johor Crown Prince claimed that a certain “Tan Sri”, who happens to be the Pro-Chancellor at UniKL and Chairman of MARA, used his position to sponsor the Kelantan teams using funds meant for students and other Malaysians.

The Crown Prince also posted official receipts of the transactions to prove his claim.

At the end of the post, TMJ demanded that the “Tan Sri” explain the direction of Pelaburan MARA and UniKL, and the funds that was supposed to belong to Malaysians.

Tan Sri Annuar Musa has since been suspended from his position, following investigations by MARA and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Tan Sri Annuar Musa also withdrew from running for the post of FAM president in March, where Tunku Ismail won uncontested.

However, at the inquiry, the former Kelantan FA president denied his involvement in the misappropriation of UniKL and MARA funds.

“I was not involved in any decision-making, negotiation or giving direction as alleged.” The Star quoted him as saying.

He also said that he was only in charge of the branding and marketing budget, to promote the Kelantan football team. He never did instruct anyone to use the funds, especially education funds, to sponsor the football team.

Tan Sri Annuar explained that that both MARA and UniKL advertised on the Kelantan’s jerseys after the decision was made by their own marketing teams.

“In fact, they (the marketing administrative teams) were transparent in their decision, it was in black and white, and I had no hand in this.” he added.
