National sailor Khairulnizam sets sights on two golds at SEA Games

National sailor Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy is confident and optimistic that he would be able to contribute to two gold medals at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in August.

The 24 year-old Kedahan has just recovered from a knee injury after going through a surgery in January and believes that he can win both the Men’s Laser Standard and Team categories.

According to Khairulnizam Afendy, he is excited to get back to training in two weeks time.

“I will be start serious preparations by next month,” he said as quoted by Berita Harian.

“I know it is a little too late for me but I am still confident that I can win two gold medals.

He finished in 47th place in the laser category at the 2012 Olympic Games and improved along the years as he clinched gold medals at the 2015 SEA Games and 2016 Asian Games.

Khairulnizam Afendy’s sister, Khairunnisa, was awarded the Top Athlete of Kedah last year and hopes to follow her brother’s footsteps by clinching gold at the upcoming SEA Games.
