Malaysian shuttlers have been struggling to hit top form in recent times but Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) Datuk Norza Zakaria remains confident that the national contingent will be able to achieve their target to making it into the semi-final.

The newly-appointed BAM president is working closely with Technical Director, Morten Frost, to evaluate the squad on a daily basis and ensure that only the best players are sent to Gold Coast later this month.

“We will evaluate and monitor their form on a daily basis. We’ve also produced a shortlist of back-up players who can get the job done, if our main ones struggle for form. I’m also confident that it’s not too late for our shuttlers to improve their form because there’s still some time before we leave for Gold Coast,” he told Harian Metro.

The national squad will depart for Gold Coast on the 17th of May, but the likes of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong have not been at their best. Even Datuk Lee Chong Wei has struggled to beat Lin Dan in his last two meetings, which seems to have raised a bit of concern within the camp.

“We are still confident that we’ll be able to reach the semi-final of Sudirman Cup. I’ve met Morten and the coaches to discuss these things. I told them that we’ve got to solve any issues we have, before the squad leaves for Australia,” he added.

The Sudirman Cup will get underway on the 21st of May. Malaysia have been slotted into Group 1C, alongside Japan and Germany.
