Paulo Bento is not Malaysia’s next head coach – Dato’ Hamidin

Malaysia is will be travelling to Pyongyang on the 8th of June to face North Korea in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers fixture.

While the players’ safety remains a colossal concern among football players and fans, there is another elephant in the room that needs to be addressed; we still don’t have a national football head coach.

Dato’ Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin, Secretary-General of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced a few weeks back on FAM’s official pages that the new head coach will be announced very soon.

Since then, many name have floated around, inciting rumours and speculations about who would take over Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s place as the national head coach.

One prominent name that was making headlines was Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento – the man who coached Portugal at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, Dato’ Hamidin has rubbished that rumour via a statement released on FAM’s official Facebook page.

“I would like to inform all regarding the speculation on social media of former Olympiakos coach Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento being the new national head coach isn’t true at all.” Dato’ Hamidin said.

“Once the matter is approved by HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor and President of the Football Association of Malaysia, I will announce the real national head coach from Portugal in the next 3 or 4 days to all Malaysian football fans.” he added.

Based on the statement, it seems that FAM has already confirmed a national head coach for Malaysia, and they are just waiting on the completion of all documentation and contractual process before unveiling his name.

We certainly can’t wait to find out who it is!
