TMJ slams Khairy for missing FA Cup final in Shah Alam

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has slammed Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin for not attending the 2017 FA Cup final.

The 2017 FA Cup final between Kedah and Pahang took place at the Shah Alam Stadium last Saturday night at 9pm.

Tunku Ismail, who was present at the final, raised the issue via a statement on Facebook. Apparently the FAM president was asked by many as to why the Youth and Sports minister was missing from a historic match.

“According to rumours, he was involved with the Territorial Army on the night of the FA Cup match. To me, if the Territorial Army programme was more of a priority, then it would’ve been better for him to be a territorial soldier than a Youth and Sports Minister.” Tunku Ismail said.

The FAM president added that the final was also attended by royalties from Kedah, Johor and Pahang.

“Don’t just choose to go to events where you will definitely be the centre of attention and when it’s otherwise, you don’t attend because you already know you won’t be the main focus.”

“When you are a minister or a politician, you should be serving the people and the national institutions , not your personal interest. If it’s all about becoming popular, then you should be a celebrity, not a minister or a politician.”

“To all politician and youth leaders, your duty is to serve the people, not counting how many followers you have on social media. This is not about sports and football only, but responsibility and accountability of every politician.” the Johor Crown Prince concluded the statement.
