UCL: Heineken rewards Malaysians who ‘Champion the Match Night’!

In conjunction with Heineken’s latest ‘Champion the Match Night’ campaign during this UEFA Champions League season, Heineken has launched a brand new local TVC featuring local Playmakers. The 60-second video shows how Malaysian football fans make an effort to overcome match night excuses to watch the matches live, like a true fan.

This season, Malaysian football fans have also stepped out of their comfort zone and changed their behaviours by turning their late nights into early days. They participated in Heineken’s digital challenge, ‘The Playmaker’, which offered the opportunity to experience an unforgettable match night this season. All contestants had to do was answer a series of questions to reflect their playmaker spirit and finish with a creative sentence to showcase why they deserve to be the Ultimate Playmaker. The Ultimate Playmaker will experience an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the ultimate UEFA Champions League final viewing experience aboard a luxury cruise in Greece.

Julian Khoo, Chow Tatt Ho, and Yap Teng Foong, who were chosen as the top 3 finalists of ‘The Playmaker’, were invited to watch the UEFA Champions League semi-final match with Heineken but with a surprising Heineken twist. The journey which evolved from a website Q&A challenge to an on-ground challenge required them to showcase their determination, strategies and persuasiveness, including persuading a friend to watch the match with them at an unknown location and then together, finding the location of the UEFA Champions League semi-final viewing party!

Julian Khoo scored a hat-trick from the three on-ground challenges, making him the ultimate Heineken Playmaker in Malaysia! Together with his brother, Justin Khoo, they will be going on a once-in-a-lifetime experience sailing along the magnificent Greek islands on a luxury cruise to experience the UEFA Champions League final screening on open sea and party at Mykonos, Greece’s number one party destination, with ice-cold Heineken beers!

“What motivates me is the passion for football and the team that I am supporting. Participating in Heineken’s Champion the Match Night campaign has definitely been an exciting experience for me especially since we will be watching the final match live on a luxury cruise in Greece!” shared Julian Khoo.

The other two finalists, Yap Teng Foong and Chow Tatt Ho also shared that the best way to enjoy a football match is to be able to watch it with their close friends. They would also sleep earlier and wake up in time for the matches that happen at early hours of the day during the UEFA Champions League season. The finalists and their friends will be joining Heineken and other Malaysian football fans to watch the final live in Kuala Lumpur at Heineken’s final viewing party.

Aside from those who participated in the Playmaker Challenge, eight Malaysians who purchased Heineken and took part in the Heineken UEFA Champions League contest throughout the month of April at bars or at stores, won all-expenses-paid trips to watch the UEFA Champions League semi-final LIVE at the stadium! Before departing to the stadium, they enjoyed the Heineken’s Hospitality at The Roof Bar – one of the most popular hotspots in Madrid. It was definitely the ultimate football experience for the lucky Malaysians, and they shared their energy and passion with 50,000 other football fans at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Spain as they cheered on their team during the Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid match.
