JDT to announce new head coach “very soon”

Reigining Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim have made a shocking announcement that current head coach Benjamin Mora will return to spearheading JDT II.

This was confirmed by JDT’s Sports Director, Alistair Edwards, on their official Facebook page.

According to Edwards, they did not want to rush into any decision to hire a new head coach after the departure of former head coach Mario Gomez, who left the club just two days before the Charity Shield match in January.

The club needed someone who was already familiar with the way things worked at JDT, someone who can already work with the system in place, who was also cost effective for the club. Therefore, Benjamin Mora was chosen as the caretaker coach.

“Benjamin Mora will now return to his original role as head coach of JDT II. He has been fantastic in moulding the young players for the first team. Some of the young players we can see today includes Fazly Mazlan, Dominic Tan, Afiq Fazail and Hadi Fayyadh,” said Edwards.

“Once again we would like to thank Benjamin Mora for his continuous service, hard work and dedication to our great club. He is a young coach with much potential and we are confident he will be an even better coach in the future,” added Edwards.

He added JDT will announce their new head coach ‘very soon’, while Ismail Ibrahim and Raul Longhi will temporarily take charge of the team until then.

Benjamin Mora stepped up to fill in the shoes of former JDT head coach, Mario Gomez, after the latter’s services were terminated early in January.
