2017 Indonesia Open: complete list of winners

The 2017 Indonesia Open culminated yesterday during the heated finals, as we witnessed years of hard work being paid off and tears being shed.

India’s Srikanth Kidambi emerged winner of the men’s singles after a hard-fought battle with Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai. This is Srikanth’s first ever Indonesia Open Superseries title.

The 24-year old Indian outclassed Sakai in two straight sets, with 21-11, 21-19, all in under 37 minutes.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve won a super series as I was actually injured after the Olympics.” a beaming Srikanth said after the match.

“It’s definitely much needed for me after losing the final in the Singapore Open.” he added.

In the women’s single, Japan’s Sayaka Sato clinched her first ever singles in a Badminton World Federation Super Series event.

Sato, who put up a relentless fight against world No.5, Sung Ji-Hyun, defeated her opponent 21-13, 17-21, 21-19.

“After the second game, I saw my opponent’s face was quite tense… that’s when I started to earn point by point.” said Sato, who fell to her knees and succumbed to her tears upon earning her championship point.
