Malaysian police are after hooligans – Khairy J

Malaysian Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin has assured the public that the Malaysian police is proactively hunting after a small group of fans who physically abused Vietnam supporters last night.

Several Malaysian supporters, who claim to be part of a group called Inter Johor Firms (IJF) threw water bottles as projectiles towards Vietnam supporters present at the Shah Alam Stadium yesterday. The incident occured after the final whistle, and escalated to a point where these exact group of invididuals began physically beating those Vietnam fans.

However, Khairy Jamaluddin has assured fans that strong action will be taken against individuals involved in the fracas, and that the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) are already hunting after them.

This tweet comes after Khairy initially released a statement, lambasting the incident that took place, after it sparked massive backlash from Vietnamese football fans on social network sites.

But since then, plenty of Malaysian fans have also publicly condemned the incident, showing their support for the Vietnamese fans who suffered severe consequences as a result of the post-match drama at the Shah Alam Stadium.

An open letter has also been published on our site, calling for peace and understanding between both sets of fans, ahead of the second leg, which will take place on the 11th of December in Hanoi.
