Giedo van der Garde wins court case over Sauber

Dutch Formula One driver Giedo van der Garde has won his case against Sauber in the Supreme Court of Victoria, meaning that Sauber would be legally bound to allow him to race during the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix.

“I’m happy that we won the case, and that we stand here. Now I’m looking forward to getting back to business,” he told reporters.

Van der Garde, who was the team’s reserve driver last year, took legal action against the Sauber team for going against their promise of including him in the race team for this year.

The Australian court dismissed Sauber’s arguments about safety, claiming that it was irrelevant to the case and as far as Van der Garde is concerned, he is keen on getting back to business as soon as possible.

“I’m the fittest ever, I’ve been training the last three months flat out. I’m looking forward to going back to the team and we’ll work hard to do our best for this weekend.”

The decision also means that Sauber would be required to drop one driver from their race team in order to fit Van der Garde; either Marcus Ericsson or Felipe Nasr
